You may also be able to get it plated with yellow gold, rose gold, or rhodium for a white gold appearance. So, in short, you can still wear your inherited earrings, but as a pendant and a ring that have an all-new look.
That said, some inheritances are a keepsake because of the emotional, cultural strings attached to them. You do not want to change an iota of anything on such heirlooms.
