Jewelry wears and tears over time and needs repairs. Depending on the type of jewelry, one can expect to visit an expert jeweler for various jewelry repair services. NL Gold Factory proudly provides its clients the following services.

RING/BRACELET RESIZING

You bought the most beautiful engagement ring you could imagine. But the joy and pride about the beautiful piece of jewellery is clouded because it does not fit perfectly? Or the wedding ring no longer fits on your finger? It happens more often than you would think.

We at NL Gold factory can help you in such a situation. We can make changes to the ring size without leaving any traces. There may be many ways to alter ring sizes. We can explain exactly which changes are possible to your rings and bracelets, so they fit you well again. In the process, we care for engravings or gemstones in the ring or bracelet.

To reduce ring size, we would cut a piece of the shank at the bottom and solder it back flawlessly to make it your size. We use advanced soldering technology, which means we do not have to remove stones to work on the ring. This technology allows us to work on the metal with heat while the stones remain undamaged. This reduces our turnaround times and your costs significantly. After soldering the shank, we will then clean and polish the ring to remove any signs of the resizing process.

To increase ring size, we would add a small strip of metal at the bottom of the shank in a manner that the added strip becomes a part of the shank without any joints or markings on the surface. However, please note that rings that have stones on the shank, such as eternity bands cannot be treated this way. Also, some jewelers increase ring size by stretching the metal. However, this method may distort the shape of the ring and is definitely not suitable for rings with gemstones.

There are also limits on how much a ring can be adjusted. Normally, you can adjust a ring up or down two sizes. Beyond this, the risk of damaging the ring and affecting the diamond (or other gemstone) setting increases.

In terms of costs, because we need to add more material to the ring in order to resize it up, it usually costs more to make a ring larger than to make it smaller. Ring resizing may cost anywhere between $20 to a few hundred dollars depending on the complexity of the process.

Similarly, for bracelets we can reduce the size by removing links from the length. To upsize, we would need to add links to the length.

Visit us at NL Gold Factory for all your ring and bracelet resizing needs. Our team can provide you expert advice on your options, turnaround times, and costs.

RING SHANK REPAIRS/REPLACEMENT

Ring shank is the strip of metal on the ring that runs around your finger. Shank replacement is necessary for rings where shanks have thinned out over time due to wear and tear, cracked in places, or have missing portions. To replace a shank, we can attach a strip of thick metal to the area where the shank needs replacement. Depending on the damage, ring shank replacements come in quarter-shank, half-shank, or full-shank replacements; accordingly the price. Our onsite jeweler can take a closer look at your jewelry and advise you of the best course to bring your ring to new life.

PRONG REPAIR/REPLACEMENT

Prongs keep your stones in their place. If the prongs are damaged, you are very well at the risk of losing your precious stones. One way to be pro-active is to regularly check your stones and prongs. If the prongs are bent or not touching the stone, we can help with re-tipping them. We will take off the stone, remove the damaged prong and attach a new one in place. However, if the more than one prongs are damaged, it will be worthwhile to replace the whole setting. Feel free to visit us and discuss your prong repair needs. We can provide a free quote and best advice.

TIGHTEN LOOSE STONES

Diamond and stones become loose over time due to wear and tear jewelry receives as it comes in contact with other objects. Stones on rings and bracelets are more susceptible to becoming loose as jewelry on your hands will have the most contact with other objects. If you notice any wobbly stones on your jewelry, don’t wait or risk losing the diamonds and gemstones entirely!

How the diamonds and gemstones in your jewelry are tightened will depend entirely on how the stones are set and how much metal is available to work with. We can carefully analyse your jewelry and suggest a remedy, such as prong re-tipping, prong replacement, rebuilding channels on the edges of the rings that cover the length of many stones or using the existing metal on the jewelry to tighten the stones.

FIXING BROKEN CHAINS AND BRACELETS

Fixing broken chains is one of the two most often performed jobs in a jewelry repair shop (resizing rings is the other). Most wear and tear on jewelry chains occurs at the point where the clasp joins the necklace. This is where the most stress is placed. While some chains may be easy to repair, others that are made of thin wires, complex links or patterns are the most difficult to fix. Apart from increasing or decreasing size of chains and bracelets, chains may require soldering of broken links. We use advanced technology and utmost care in soldering chains so that the other links do not melt. The use of advanced soldering technology means we do not have to remove any stones in your jewelry and hence, shorter turnaround time, and cost.

CLASP REPAIR/REPLACEMENT

The mechanism that helps you fasten your necklaces and bracelets is the clasp. Over time clasps can get loose or may even break. The key is to check your clasps regularly and avoid wearing jewelry that has loose or broken clasps. Whether your clasp is broken or loose, we evaluate it thoroughly to see the extent of damage and ascertain if there are any other damages. Next, we evaluate if the clasp needs repairs or replacement. We can provide you a free quote and turnaround time estimates. We then repair or replace the clasp and check the links attached to the clasp. Finally, we polish it to its original shine.

WATCH BATTERY REPLACEMENT

Watch batteries need to be replaced over time. While you rely on your watch to keep a track of your day, they can sometimes cause you great trouble when they stop ticking. You sure would not want to fall behind on your schedule. We at NL Gold Factory have your back! Visit us for your watch battery replacement needs.

RHODIUM PLATING

When white gold is created, it usually has a yellowish tinge to it. To give your white gold the white shimmering tone, it is electroplated, or Rhodium plated.

Before rhodium plating, our experts will inspect your jewelry to be sure it does not have any loose stones or require additional repair. Once we determine it is safe to proceed, we will give your jewelry thorough clean before dipping it in the solution.

Depending on the type of jewelry and how much wear and tear your jewelry experiences, you may want to get it re-plated every 3 to 6 months.

BUFFING AND REPOLISHING

Jewelry loses its shine, sheen, and lustre over time due to use. Buffing and polishing are the two procedures used to provide lustre to any jewelry. Although often used interchangeably, these are two separate processes. Buffing is done to smoothen out the surface of the jewelry using buffing machine. Polishing uses compounds to provide the final shine, lustre to jewelry. We use a wide array of machines and handheld tools to remove uneven or rustic surfaces from gold, platinum, or silver. Repolishing jewelry helps remove scratches, nicks, and other mars in the metal. We can restore worn gold, silver, or platinum to its original shine. Visit us for your repolishing needs. Our team can provide free quote and turnaround time estimates.
